Word is out this morning that First Republic Bank has failed, and all of its assets will be bought by JPMorgan. Overnight, JPMorgan has assumed all deposits and assets of the bank.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p>The Californian financial regulator has taken possession of&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnbc.com\/quotes\/FRC\/\">First Republic<\/a>, resulting in the third failure of an American bank since March, after a last-ditch effort to persuade rival lenders to keep the ailing bank afloat failed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The California Department of Financial Protection and Innovation (DFPI)&nbsp;said in a release early Monday that JPMorgan Chase will assume all deposits, including uninsured deposits, and \u201csubstantially all assets\u201d of the bank.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation was appointed receiver of the bank.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Since the sudden\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnbc.com\/2023\/03\/10\/silicon-valley-bank-collapse-how-it-happened.html\">collapse of Silicon Valley Bank<\/a>\u00a0in March, attention has focused on First Republic as the weakest link in the U.S. banking system. Like SVB, which catered to the tech startup community, First Republic was also a California-based specialty lender of sorts.
