The prospect of a convicted Donald Trump running for President from prison, unable to win a General Election against Joe Biden, is just what Democrats would love to see. It seems unthinkable &#8211; but at this point, <a href=\"https:\/\/freelyinformed.com\/blog\/trump-ag-bill-barr-hes-toast-if-half-is-true-in-indictment-video\/\" data-type=\"post\" data-id=\"633\">it actually could happen<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p>Donald Trump vowed Saturday to continue running for president even if he were to be convicted as part of the&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.politico.com\/news\/2023\/06\/09\/trump-indictment-read-00101292\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">37-count federal felony indictment<\/a>&nbsp;that was issued against him this week.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cI\u2019ll never leave,\u201d Trump said in an interview aboard his plane. \u201cLook, if I would have left, I would have left prior to the original race in 2016. That was a rough one. In theory that was not doable.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Trump is not legally prohibited from running for president from prison or as a convicted felon. But such a bid would nevertheless provide a massive stress test for the country\u2019s political and legal systems.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The former president leveled harsh criticisms at special counsel Jack Smith and argued that the case against him was politically motivated and flimsy. \u201cThese are thugs and degenerates who are after me,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Trump predicted he would not be convicted and said he did not anticipate taking a plea deal, though he left open the possibility of doing so \u201cwhere they pay me some damages.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>He sidestepped the possibility that he would pardon himself should he win the presidency in 2024. \u201cI don\u2019t think I\u2019ll ever have to,\u201d Trump said. \u201cI didn\u2019t do anything wrong.\u201d. . . . <\/p>\n<cite><a href=\"https:\/\/www.politico.com\/news\/2023\/06\/10\/trump-vows-to-stay-in-the-race-even-if-convicted-00101403\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">POLITICO<\/a><\/cite><\/blockquote>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>And this is the problematic reality for Republicans.
