They falsely claim they don&#8217;t want to see a wider Middle East War, but say they have their &#8220;red lines&#8221; &#8211; and an Israeli invasion of Gaza will force their hand. The truth is that Iran is the bloody hand behind what Hamas has done. The &#8220;red line&#8221; that has been crossed is what Hamas did with Iran&#8217;s urging &#8211; the unspeakable atrocities against innocent Israelis &#8211; including women and babies.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p>Iran sent a message to Israel on Saturday stressing that it does not want further escalation in the&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.axios.com\/2023\/10\/12\/israel-hamas-war-gaza-latest-news\">Hamas-Israel war<\/a>, but that it will have to intervene if the Israeli operation in&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.axios.com\/2023\/10\/14\/gaza-humanitarian-crisis-hamas-israel-war-death-toll\">Gaza<\/a>&nbsp;continues, two diplomatic sources with knowledge of the situation told Axios.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Why it matters:<\/strong>&nbsp;The fighting between Hamas and Israel will turn into a regional war if Iran gets involved either directly or indirectly, such as through a militant group in Syria or by backing any Hezbollah decision to fully join the fighting.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Iran&#8217;s message, sent to Israel through the UN, comes as the Biden administration has been trying to deter Iran and Lebanon-backed Hezbollah, supported by Iran, from joining the war. This week, the U.S. sent an aircraft carrier group and fighter jets to the region.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Behind the scenes:&nbsp;<\/strong>Iranian Foreign Minister Hossein Amir-Abdollahian met with UN envoy to the Middle East Tor Wennesland on Saturday in Beirut, the two diplomatic sources said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Wennesland urged Amir-Abdollahian to help prevent a spillover of the conflict in Gaza and Israel to the wider region in the Middle East.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>The Iranian foreign minister replied that Iran doesn&#8217;t want the conflict to turn into a regional war and wants to try to help with the release of civilians who are being held hostage by Hamas in Gaza.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>But Amir-Abdollahian stressed that Iran has its red lines.
